A Soldiers Christmas

I already posted this on my facebook, but this poem just touched me so much i wanted to post it here too. :)

Someone sent me this Poem yesterday, and I wanted to share it with ya'll.  Let us never forget we always have our service men and women out fighting for our freedom and spreading it to others.  Countless birthdays, holidays, and special moments have been missed by those serving our country and even though we will never be able to repay their service, thanking and supporting them is a good way to start. This Christmas i want to thank all those who don't get the opportunity to come home and be with their families. I am so thankful that Ben gets to be home.
I love my Airman.

A Soldier's Christmas
By Michael Marks

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight;
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.

Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight;
The sparkling lights in the tree, I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.

My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep
In perfect contentment or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eye when it tickled my ear;
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,
Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.

My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near;
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.

A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold;
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"

For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light,
Then he sighed and he said "It's really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night.

"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line
That separates you from the darkest of times;
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.

"My Gramps died at 'Pearl' on a day in December,"
then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram' always remembers;
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam,
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.

"I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile;"
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red white and blue ... an American flag.

"I can live through the cold and the being alone
Away from my family, my house and my home;
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.

"I can carry the weight of killing another
Or lay down my life with my sisters and brothers
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To insure for all time that this flag will not fall.

"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."

"But isn't there something I can do, at the least
Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.

"For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

Poor Little Guy

Well Boss was officially Neutered! Finally..... This kid needed it. He did so well. He was so sad when I picked him up and on the way home. But as soon as I opened the door he jumped out of my arms and started running around like a crazy!! I was so worried his stitches would come out, because he just would NOT stay still. (I think he was bored being locked up all day at the vet). But luckily they are still in and it has been a week today! :)  Hopefully it heals up without any problems. He is a brave little guy.
He was so mad about the cone of shame. :( haha
FINALLY asleep

So I am sick.
Not the kind of sick where you can just buy some medicine, lay in bed, buy some soup, watch a Matthew Mcconaughey movie, and be back to work a few days later.
Nope. Not that kind.
I'm sick of rain.
Sick of this stupid apartment.
Sick of Boss not being willing to just go pee OUTSIDE
Sick of not having anything to do all day long.
I think i'm going crazy.
Now if only Mr. Mcconaughey could fix that. . .

Updates GALORE!

Lots and lots has been going on at our little home. Halloween came and went, so did Thanksgiving and now we are looking Christmas time straight in the face! I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I posted some info about whats been going on lately since we have be stinking at keeping this up to date.

Tons of crazy stuff happening, but its all GREAT! :)  Wish us luck! Being away from each other for a good 3 months is sure gonna test our sanity. But we're ready.

Bye Bye Benji :(

We had originally counted on Ben leaving for training no sooner than the end of January or February, but it ended up working out that he leaves TOMORROW, for 3 weeks to complete SERE training. He gets back the 18th of December and then leaves for flight school in Ohio the 2nd of January.  He will be gone for all of January for flight, and then all of February for ground school. So basically he will be gone for 3 months with a week break for Christmas. Holy crap am i worried. But at the same time I am SO so relieved we will be able to get it all done with sooner rather than later. So thats a plus side. Right? ha I'm just so excited for the 18th to come, so we can go home for a week :) We both miss our families like crazy! So tomorrow the countdown begins!

School for the Sam-ster

So, this whole moving to another state when you only have a year and a half left of school thing has taken a HUGE toll on me. Being so close and then having to pause the whole process is so incredibly frustrating. But until we get to Utah i don't think its very smart to try and finish school. Out of state tuition is KILLER and we don't qualify for in-state tuition til August 2011. :/  So after many weeks of whining, I decided to look into some military programs for spouses. :)  I found the MOST amazing personal training program, and i got my plan accepted for the scholarship. They approved me for 6,000 dollars. and it cover the whole program. I'm getting my Master Trainer, and i am super excited. That way when we get back to Utah, I can work being a trainer and go to school.  It will help us save a BUNCH of money and definitely help Ben get to med school without completely killing us. ha I start the 7th of December, and then i just have to bust my butt getting it done before Ben gets off orders since the scholarship is only valid if i finish while Ben is active duty. Phew. That is going to be some hard work. But its totally worth it. 6 courses in 4 months? I can do it!

Doctor stuffs.

The first week of November I had a doctors appointment to ask about some stomach pains i have been having since the beginning of the summer, to see if there was anything i could do about it. Turns out, the doc. thinks its my gall bladder. So began the LONG process that is trying to get an appointment with tricare. I waited 3 weeks for an ultrasound,  I had the ultrasound on Wednesday, then i have to wait another 3 weeks to get the results. So i guess we'll find out what the problem is in 3 weeks. :/ I HATE Tricare.

Halloween :D

Ok, so one of my favorite blogs is called Tatertots and Jello http://tatertotsandjello.blogspot.com/. She is AMAZING, and her stuff is adorable. Check it out.
But this week she did a post on halloween costumes with a link to another blog that had such cute family costume ideas! I'm a dork i guess and ABSOLUTELY love when families dress up together. It made me want a baby so bad! don't worry i've since come down from the "I want a baby high".  But they are so cute, and i will definitely be saving those pics for when the joyous time finally arrives and the Heder family can dress like breakfast food. haha

Or this:

Or Ghostbusters/the busted ghost

Although my favorite is the pirate/parrot idea :)
We WILL be doing this.....poor ben
Can't Wait!!!! :)

Best Days With You

This weekend my parents came to visit us.  They just left our apartment, I sat on the couch, and am completely overcome by a horrible homesick feeling. This weekend has been the best.  I can't even express how good it is to see my parents.  I have loved being able to show them our apartment and introduce them to Boss. (which is adorable. Boss LOVES my dad! haha)  I have missed them so much since being in Washington.  Its completely different than moving away for college when you get married, and I did not expect that.  Its kind of a rude awakening.
It is so strange to think that I will never live at my house again.  Its weird that it isn't my house anymore..... After living in the same place for 19 years, it is going to take a long while to feel like anywhere else is home.
I love it here, but it is really easy to get homesick.  Especially now that Ben works nights.   Boss has helped A LOT though. I'm so happy we got him.
It is going to be really hard to say goodbye tomorrow, but I am so glad that I have such amazing parents.  I am so glad that I honestly can call my parents my friends. And no matter where Ben and I go, or how long we are gone I know that my parents will always be there for me.  I love spending time with them, even though we won't get to see each other very often for the next while, I just want to make the best of every second I have.  I learn so much from them, and I know i'm very lucky. :)
I love them.
And I can't wait til Christmas when we will be able to go home and see everyone. :)

Welcome to the Heder family!!!

Well, Ben and I decided that we were finally ready for a new addition to our little family. (yeah, its been 43 days.... what can i say, we move fast. haha)
We researched online and decided we couldn't get a big dog because we didn't want him to be stuck in a small apartment. Later we also found out that we can only have a dog up to 25lbs in our complex.
We found a few puppies we liked and started calling around.
We finally decided on a cute little terrier/pom chi mix. :) and off we went to go see him!

Cute huh? haha
 He freaked out a little while we were driving home. ha He whined the whole way. But it was still cute. :)
We decided to name him Boss, Boss Danger Heder.... i know... its awesome!

 We finally got him home, and ever since then he has been the best little puppy EVER. :)  He is getting so good at potty training, and I love how excited he gets when Ben comes home. Its ADORABLE :)
Welcome to the family Boss, WE LOVE YOU! :)

Honeymoon! :)

For our wedding our parents paid for our honeymoon! :)  We went on a cruise that started in Ft. Lauderdale Florida, then went to Key West, then to Grand Caymans, then to Jamaica, and then back to Ft. Lauderdale. :)  It was so fun every place we went was different, and even though it was cool to see the other countries, Ben and I mostly just loved to lay on the deck and read. :)  We had a ton of fun and are super thankful to our parents for such a great gift.

Perfect Day!!!

We are finally in Washington! Our new home! :)  It is crazy how fast these last couple weeks have gone by.  After the wedding it seems like everything has just been in fast forward.  So lets start with the wedding..
Wednesday August 18th 2010:
We were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple at 11am :)  Ben and I had to be at the temple at 7 because I decided to take out my endowments the same day.  The session was at 9, and i was super nervous. But, it really was amazing!  The whole morning was perfect :)  After we got out of the temple it was sunny and perfect, then after pictures we went back inside to change before the luncheon. Right after we went back inside of the temple it started raining. How lucky are we!!!?
The luncheon also went perfect, it was just how we wanted it. :)  Same with the reception, all in all it was our day and it was great! I'm so glad it all worked out the way we wanted it to. :)  Pictures are supposed to be finished soon and I can't wait to see them :)
Here are some pics my friend Bailee took at the reception. :)

4 days and we are THERE!

With only four days left things have gotten pretty hectic.....
Its crazy to think that it seems like a few days ago we were counting the days til Ben got done with basic training.  Time has flown by, but still has gone so slow. haha
I am super excited to now say that we FINALLY have an apartment.  It took forever to get that all figured out. It was crazy. ha But, i'm so relieved we got it all taken care of. Now all we need is to get there!
Ben arrived in Washington yesterday, and i was so glad to find out that he LOVES it. :)  I am so excited to be able to get up there with him! Four more days and then we can start our new life. I love it. :)

6 Days Left :) :) :)

Well there are only 6 days left and we are officially Married!!
Ben got to come home Tuesday at 8am, and then left again that night at about 9pm.  It was so fun to just get to spend the day together. :)  We got our marriage licence, which is a huge relief. ha Now we are basically ready! Just a few minor details and we are finished! :)
Here are some pics from our Guest Tree: :)

Cute Huh? haha now if it would only dry.........

I love to see the Temple, I'm going there in 10 days!!!! :)

Well, only 10 days left, and let me just say in case there was any question..........I am SOOOO excited!!! :)
I got my temple recommend today and my recommend for living ordinance, it was so surreal to know that in 10 days i would actually get to walk into the temple and be sealed to my best friend for time and ALL eternity.  It is such a blessing.
I was especially grateful today because my dad took my whole family on a drive to the Draper temple and on the  way and while we were there he talked to us about the temple and answered everyone's questions. It felt so amazing to be sitting there looking at the House of the Lord and knowing that the day is so close. It also helped me to feel a lot better about going to the temple for the first time.  It seems like all most people tell you before going to the temple is how weird it was or how they had a bad first experience. I don't like it at all.  It kind of seems to me that if you go ready to learn and prepared to feel the spirit, going to the temple should be a great experience. I think my mom said it best when she said that if your READY the temple doesn't seem strange at all, it feels more like you've heard it all before.  I'm so excited to go there and learn and grow, especially to be able to learn and grow with Ben.  I'm so lucky to be marrying a worthy priesthood holder, i know it will bless our family.  :)
I am so excited for August 18th, and I am so excited for the rest of our journey. After all, its just the beginning. The best is yet to come. :)

Together Forever
and then some ;)

We have a place to SLEEP!!!!! :)

I bought our bed today!!!! :) I was so excited! haha i don't think i ever thought i would be excited for the things that excite me every day. Even at my Bridal Shower, every time i opened a gift i was so exited! "oh my gosh, a toaster! CUTE!" thats really how it was every single time. haha It makes me laugh.
The apartment we thought we had didn't work out. (dumb people didn't have any left, and they told us they did....rude)  BUT, i found a different one and i love it so much, it is a billion times cuter than the first one!!  its also 200 square feet bigger, AND its only 1 1/2 years old. so it looks brand new. I love it! :)  I'm calling them tomorrow so I hope everything works out.

Look how cute it is!!!! :) I love it, i hope we get it!!!
